Chapter Five

Despite how it the portal had been glowing a blue-white, it was pure darkness inside the portal. Kristen felt herself falling. She blindly swiped her hands through the air trying to feel the others, but to no avail. She continued falling for what seemed like ages but what was really a few minutes.

Then, with a thump, Kristen was face first in some sand. Kristen groaned and slowly got up. She could hear the sounds of lapping water. She looked behind her to see an ocean. She gasped at the beauty of the sunset on the ocean. It was breath taking to her what with all the colors of pinks, oranges, and purples. Kristen shook her head. She had to find the others.

It wasn’t hard finding them. Peter the red Yoshi was unconscious on the ground a few meters away with his sword a few feet away from his body. The silver Yoshi, Yume, was struggling to her feet with her sword in hand and Hoshi, the purple Yoshi, was stood up beside her. The black Yoshi, Cory, was a few meters away standing up and looking at the sunset. He looked over at Kristen and began to walk over. Kristen looked down in the sand. There was her crystal wand. She plucked it off the ground.

“We might as well go to sleep...” stated Yume. Hoshi yawned and then nodded.

“Very well then...” said Cory. Cory looked back beyond the beach to see a forest. It was a huge island from what he could tell. Or perhaps it was part of the mainland. It was so big he could tell neither. But something inside him told him it was an island and that he was supposed to be there...

Hoshi curled up in the sand and soon fell asleep. Yume walked next to Kristen and lay down. Yume had grown attached to Kristen in particular. She could tell they’d make good friends. Kristen smiled at Yume and lay down herself. Together, they looked up at the sky until darkness spread over the land. Only then did the three remaining Yoshis whom were awake fall asleep.

---

Kristen awoke first the next morning. She grabbed her crystal wand and looked out into the ocean at the sunrise. It was beautiful to say at the least. For ten minutes she watched it in silence. Then something broke the silence. It sounded like a cross between a screech and a roar.

Kristen jumped to her feet. She saw, out of the corner of her eye, Peter struggle to his feet. Cory, Yume, and Hoshi were already awake and getting up on their feet as well.

“What’s that?” asked Hoshi with a hint of fear in her voice. Yume was close to whimpering. Yume was, as Darkon had called her, a coward. That is unless she used her fighting persona. But that was it.

Cory looked around, a ball of flame appeared in his hand. Yume drew her sword and Peter finally got up on his feet. He bent over and picked up his sword.

“I don’t know what that was...” said Cory, truly unsure. Cory had heard many different kinds of animal noises but none of them came close to this. “We have to explore it. We were put here for a reason.” said Cory. Kristen pointed to the forest.

“Look!” exclaimed Kristen. Emerging from the woods was a dark blue Yoshi. He was clutching a wound on his chest. Blood seeped out from under his hand. He had a determined look on his face as he approached the group. His face turned from a determined look to one of surprise at seeing the others.

“He he. An injured one.” said a voice behind Yume. Yume recognized it as Spencer. Yume turned behind her to face the red Boo. She put a finger to her lips. Spencer immediately quieted down and continued floating a few feet above the ground.

“Are you okay?” asked Kristen as the dark blue Yoshi came within a few meters of them.

“I’ve had worse and lived.” was his blunt reply. He took his hand off the injury to reveal three scratch marks that looked fairly deep. Hoshi and Yume grimaced. Peter walked over to the blue Yoshi.

“You sure?” asked Peter in a soft voice. The Yoshi nodded and sat down in the sand. He looked over the beach and gasped.

“My boat! It’s gone!” he exclaimed. Cory gave him a questioning look. “I came here on a boat. I came here to find the four Elemental Stones.” he said, seemingly to himself as well. He silently wondered what could have happened to his boat.

Peter looked around the beach. He wondered what could happen to a boat on what seemed to be a remote area. Peter shrugged. Then the fact that he was looking for the Elemental Stones dawned on him.

“We’re on Elementia?” asked Peter. The dark blue Yoshi nodded. “Well then, if the prophecy is right, we better get going.” said Peter excitedly. Spencer lolled his tongue out.

“Righto then. Everyone lets-a get movin’!” exclaimed Spencer. The dark blue Yoshi finally noticed the red Boo. He jumped up to his feet and stared curiously at the Boo.

“Never thought I’d see the day when Boos and Yoshis work together...” mumbled the Yoshi. Spencer laughed and began floating in a circle around them.

“Spencer is an old childhood friend of mine...” said Yume. Yume pat Spencer on the head as he floated her way. He cackled a bit and then continued back on his route of circling the group. Hoshi meanwhile watched his every movement with interest and soon was skipping along behind him, closely following him with a grin on her face.

Kristen looked to the forest. She wondered what could be in there. Cory meanwhile, asked a question Kristen too had been pondering but too shy to ask. “How’d you get those scratches?” asked Cory.

“A damned Gryphon dealt them to me.” said the Yoshi with anger in his voice. Cory sighed. If this prophecy was true, they were to find the Elemental Stones.

“Come on everyone. Lets go.” said Cory. He then trained his red-eyed gaze on the Yoshi. “What is your name?” he asked. The blue Yoshi stood up.

“The name’s Katsu.” stated Katsu, the dark blue Yoshi. Cory nodded and began to introduce everyone from himself to Spencer. When he finished, Cory looked back at the forest for a moment before turning his gaze back to Katsu.

“You might want to stay here. We have a long journey ahead of us.” said Cory. Katsu shook his head.

“I want to see these Elemental Stones. I’m coming.” he said adamantly. Cory shrugged and took note that the scratch marks Katsu bore had stopped bleeding as badly. Cory began walking towards the forest. Spencer altered his course and began to follow Cory with Hoshi behind him. Kristen sighed and began walking after them. Yume followed suit. Katsu watched them leave. He got up; clutching the scratch marks again, and began to follow them. Soon they entered the dark jungle. The jungle was shrouded in dense darkness yet many plants thrived in the darkness...
